Wax on Wednesdays Sometimes Less is More and Workshop News !

There is something about witnessing these  papers absorb the wax pigments that is meditative, seductive , and magical. Encouraging the curiosity  to keep going and the excitement to see what will happen next.
Each move builds on the one made beforehand , each color blending and adding to the story .  Every piece feeling like it has a story to be told . To be revealed.

Week 3 of "Encausticology Paper Journey " online workshop
No brush hot plate painting !

This will be the last Wax on Wednesday for a couple of weeks here because Ms. Reagan is dancing in New York for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade ! Woot ! We are excited to leave for the Big Apple !

Supplies I used this week:
2 masonite boards
white encaustic medium
tissue paper (painted with india inks)
Yellow encaustic paint
green encaustic paint
oil sticks
heat gun
india ink

Sometimes Less is More
Sometimes the supplies come out , excitement sets in , and the urge to keep going , or maybe the uncertainty of when to stop presents itself .
This week I wanted to do a couple of pieces with some tissue I had painted with india inks for the purpose of using it in collage.

As I progressed and looked from one piece to the other , one of them seemed as though I had gone a little too far . The composition was poor, and there was just too much going on. The wonderful thing about encaustic of course is there are no mistakes!  I was able to frame the section I wanted revealed with a layer of black encaustic paint, and hone in the composition to something the eye could now follow.
Encaustic as a medium allows you to scrape back to reveal , cover over , and build upon previous  layers .
