Wax on Wednesdays ! Spring Live Workshop Fun

Long post today !

It is that time of year again and I have so much to share with you on what has been happening and what is coming soon !

The following photos are from this weekend at the
Photo Encaustic and Imagery workshop
in Dayton Ohio .
Please do not repost these as they are the workshop students fabulous creations
and not my own :)
We began the morning with a fresh warm up exercise of course !
This is one of my new warm ups using walnut ink . Students were able to use many of these later on in the day with their other images as a background or as collage material.
Here are just a few examples of what was created !

We spent a wonderful day transferring imagery onto the wax , layering ,mark making, scraping back, mounting, and making luminous dreamy photo images with our hands and encaustic !

Next live workshop will be:
Cincinnati Book Arts Society
at Essex Studios
Cincinnati Ohio
April 8, 2017
"Intro to Encaustic Full Day Workshop "

Encaustic is the exciting art of painting with molten beeswax and pigment .
Intro to encaustic (recommended if majority are new to encaustic ) A super fun completely hands on introduction  of this ancient medium in a supportive environment where experimentation is strongly encouraged . Instruction includes set up, proper working temperatures, safety, both traditional and  non traditional tools  , and using  both traditional and alternative colorants .  Proper fusing , incising , transferring simple drawings onto you wax surface ,  mark making, adding textures , and many more techniques of this very versatile  medium are explored .

Wax on Wednesdays !
This week is the last installment of the tea bag series for the month of March.
For this week's project I thought it would be fun to see how the tea bag paper took mono typing.

Since it is such a lightweight paper I began by using oil paint sticks . Well not everything went according to plan as you soon see in the video , but sticking with it ,and turning the corner to take new paths is all part of the encaustic journey !

Supplies I used this week :
tea bags ( cleaned out )
hardboard (4 )
encaustic medium
encaustic paint
oil paint sticks
heat gun
torch ( iwatani )
india inks

Blessings to you !
