Wax on Wednesdays! Study and Create , Cy Twombly

Cy Twombly
Cy Twombly was an American born painter that spent much of his career in Italy beginning in the late 1950s. He is known for his "graffiti like style"  , use of words and script in his works. This body of work "Poems to the Sea " was created on his honey moon in Italy in 1959.
Consisting of 24 works on paper with a limited pallet of black, white, and blue pencil horizon line . In an interview Twombly described his process : "Its more like I am having an experience than making a picture".

For this weeks study and create I used 4x4 cradled boards to allow for a thicker wax application, instead of paper .
These "Study and Creates" are meant to hopefully inspire a closer look at these wonderful 20th century  abstract artists, and their lives, and of course as always show different approaches to encaustic  painting. They are not meant to replicate in any way. Simply to show you what my own inspiration was after studying these works, and encourage you to do the same with a work that inspires you  and see what magic can happen :)

 Supplies I used this week:
4x4 cradled birch board
encaustic medium
White encaustic paint
black encaustic paint
india ink black and indigo
graphite pencil
graphite crayon
graphite powder
