Wax on Wednesdays Off the Panel #3 Will It Work ? Testing Potential Encaustic Substrates

Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
The wood panel is a perfect surface for encaustic being both
rigid and porous , but there are so many potential
substrates that can also be used for encaustic that can often be further
manipulated into unique forms and sculptures .
This week in the final week of the "Off the Panel" series, I am sharing
how I go about testing potential substrates
for encaustic.

Once these objects are tested to see that the wax will
absorb nicely , I also like to look for items that are sturdy
but can potentially be manipulated into other shapes .

These paper mache seed starter cups are perfect for
an absolutely endless number of forms that can be created from them.

 These encaustic forms
were created from the seed pod cups,
  oil paint sticks, Panpastels
and waxed linen thread .

Supplies I used this week :
Note: I got the seed starter cups at the dollar store. I found this set on Amazon but you may be able to find them at your local dollar type store as well :)

Each week I list the supplies I used in the video here on the blog for you so that you can see and easily find the items used for that week's  technique .
If you purchase items from the links provided it sometimes generates a few cents in commission  which goes right back in to creating videos for you on the youtube channel. It  does not raise the cost for you in any way, and is the same link you would find on a regular amazon prime search . Thank you ahead for you support of Wax on Wednesdays in any way ! Also , although the photos here can help you easily find the product . I also recommend that you look at your local art /hobby store to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Sometimes with weekly 40% off coupons basic items can be found at a better price.
If you are receiving this blog post via email click on the live link to the post so that you can view the supply links .

If you get as excited as I do about taking the wax
off of the traditional wood panel and onto unique
forms

"Encausticology Wax and Symbolism "
online workshop
right off the panel and into creating with tons  of
step by step projects in
creating substrates ,
adding beautiful pigments
and finishes ,
and an arsenal
of 3 dimensional encaustic sculpture techniques
 to build on in your
own art practice.
